SORRY, WRONG NUMBER.

There is little hope for me surprising anyone on April Fool's Day.  It seems everyone I talk to is on high alert that day.  They know me too well.  I have pulled some good pranks over the years and I have even had a few played on me too.  This year Nathan and Emily put Saran Wrap across my bedroom doorway right at head level but I spotted it long before I walked into it.  Long story short, April Fool's Day went by without an incident.  It was thoroughly disappointing. I couldn't even think of a good prank to pull on you readers like last year's.
I cheered up though today when I finally got to pull a prank, even if it was on a complete stranger.
Emily got a text message on her phone but not having call display, she had no idea who it was from.  It asked if she needed picked up on Sunday.  I dictated a reply and she sent it.

We waited for a reply but none came.  About five minutes later her phone rings.
"You answer it" she pleaded "I just know it will be from the person that texted."
"So?" I replied .
"I won't be able to talk" she said so I picked it up and the conversation went something like this.

"Hello?"

"Is this Tamara?" (I could tell it was an older person)

"No this is Emily " (I wasn't taking the blame)

"Oh, I was trying to get a hold of my niece Tamara.  This isn't her number?"

"No, it's mine."

"Oh, I think I sent a text to your number a few minutes ago."

"That was you? I wasn't sure who had sent it."

"I'm er... I um... I'm so sorry about that.  I was just trying to message my niece.  I'm so sorry."

Emily is just about peeing her pants she's laughing so hard and I am trying to keep my voice from cracking.

"I thought you were my son-in-law trying to be funny."

"I don't know what to say,  I am just so sorry."

"It's quite alright, you didn't know."

We said goodbye and hung up.

So somewhere on Sunday, there will be a family enjoying an Easter Brunch together having a good laugh about poor Uncle Joe texting the wrong person causing distress for both parties.  So it was not such a bad thing I did after all.  Now they have a funny story to tell at family gatherings because I'm evil nice like that.

FOOLISH ENDEAVOURS

I have to say it was quite enjoyable watching my super organized husband search for his glasses and watch on April 1st.  I hadn't really planned on pulling a prank on him because by now he's wise to me and it's hard to get him.  When I awoke on Friday morning I felt disappointed that I hadn't even attempted a prank, it was then that I spotted his glasses and watch sitting on his nightstand.  He puts them there every night before he goes to bed.  I could hear him getting out of the shower so I quickly grabbed them and slid them under the covers and pretended to still be asleep.  As he walked over to the dresser to get his socks, I opened one eye and mumbled good morning to him.  He walked over to his nightstand and wondered aloud about where his watch could be.  I pretended to not pay attention.  He muttered something about maybe it being in his office and off he went in search of them.  I remained in bed giggling under the covers.  He soon returned and now realized that his watch was missing too.  He looked at me but I played it cool, pretending to be semi comatose (my usual morning persona) and mumbled something about having no clue as to where they'd be.  He opened the drawer and then checked the floor beside the bed.  He was totally bewildered.  He went into the bathroom to see if perhaps he had left them in there the night before.  When he came back out, I threw back the blanket to reveal their hiding place. "Happy April Fool's Day"

To end the day, I served my lovely little grandchildren veggies for dinner only they were really Starburst candy I cut and moulded to look like peas and carrots.  They have never eaten their veggies so eagerly before.

Did you pull a prank or get pranked for April Fool's?

April Fool

She's beautiful, smart, sweet, and oh so gullible.  My darling daughter in law fell for the previous post, hook, line, and sinker.  In her defence, Daniel only scrolled down as far as the photo and when she asked to see if there were any comments, he quickly scrolled down to the bottom skipping the part where I mentioned April Fools.
For my efforts, I received a call from New Zealand at two thirty in the morning.  Had I not been awoken out of a sound sleep, I would have strung her along a bit more.  I am a little tired this morning but it was worth the interrupted sleep.
I could regale you with stories of April Fools past where I have pulled some very elaborate pranks, and had a few backfire on me but I am much more interested in pranks you've pulled or had pulled on you.  I am always looking for new ideas.

AND I PAY INSURANCE WHY????

Despite the warm weather we have been experiencing, we still keep a fire going because the nights are still cold.  Last night, Ian took the ashes out and dumped them where he always does and never gave it a second thought.  Later in the evening when it got dark, I noticed a bright glow coming from outside my bedroom window.  I got up to investigate and discovered that the grass behind the garage was on fire.  I interrupted Ian's weekly conference call and told him to call the fire department.  I could tell this was a fire we were not going to be able to put out on our own and it was way too close to the garage for comfort.  Our cars could be moved out quickly but we have a friend who his storing most of his household belongings in the loft.
We went outside but there was really nothing we could do.  We attached the hose to the outside faucet and realized that the water to it was shut off so the pipes didn't freeze and burst so I quickly remedied that problem.  It was too little too late.  Sitting next to the garage is my son and daughter in law's car we are keeping for them while they are in New Zealand and a very expensive hot dog cart.  Neither faired well and suffered quite a bit of damage.  The fire department was able to save the garage although we will have to replace some warped siding.
Here's the clincher, our son and daughter in law's car is not covered under our insurance and because it wasn't  "in" the garage, we can't make a claim.  Daniel and Olivia removed the insurance they had on the car because they wouldn't be driving it. So now they are without a car when they come back.  They will have to try and take it up with our insurance company but since they are all the way in New Zealand, it will be difficult.  I have been on the phone all morning with our insurance company and I am frustrated to say the least.

I know it could have been a whole lot worse and I am most definitely grateful that no one was hurt, that our garage and house did not go up in flames, and that all  is well.  My daughter in law  should be thankful that April Fools only comes once a year.
