WHAT DOES THE COW SAY?

One of the things about me that my daughter in law Emily finds highly amusing is my awesome talent at making realistic animal sounds.  With nine grandchildren this talent is used a lot and is particularly handy when it comes to singing 'Old MacDonald Had a Farm".  I have no problem showing this talent off and I can be very dramatic when it comes to the animal sounds (you should hear my elephant).

Last week I took one of my little grandsons to the Early Years Centre (a government sponsored drop in centre for children up to age six) and met up with Brittany and her two kids. Just before lunch it was circle time and we gathered to sing some action songs.  The facilitator changed it up this week and added 'Old MacDonald' to the repertoire.  I was disappointed when the first animal chosen by one of the kids was a horse (I haven't got that one down yet).  As we sang the second round the facilitator paused as we came to the part "and on his farm he had a ......" a little girl next to me shouted out cow and the facilitator continued "E-I-E-I-O , with a... and that is when I bellowed out a loud, deep moooooooo while everyone else said "oink".

THIS GIRL'S GOT TALENT

I attended another talent show the other night, this time in a different town.  I have to say I was a little disappointed.  Don't get me wrong, the talents showcased were great but there were no awkward moments or inappropriate songs to make the evening memorable although there was a comedy sketch that I didn't quite get.  Maybe I was too young for it because there was an eighty year old man who was laughing his head off.  It didn't help that I was preoccupied with a couple of little cuties so I'll withhold judgement on that one.

I hadn't planned on attending the event so wasn't prepared to participate in the talent portion of the evening but then remembered that I had brought my computer with me. Seeing that the projection screen was already up and that someone had an attachment that would hook up my computer to the projector gave me an idea to showcase my talent.   Without Ian's knowledge or permission, I played his skydiving video.  What's so talented about that?  Nothing really but that wasn't my talent.  Getting into trouble is my talent and in trouble I was.  Was it worth it you ask?  Why yes, yes it was!

ODE TO A TALENTED FRIEND

Of all my friends I have a few,
Who are an especially talented crew,
One who is so good at cooking,
I lick the plate when no one's looking,
Another girl I know can write,
I read her blog most every night,
And yet another friend can bake,
And also decorate a cake,
In such a beautiful array,
She asks for money, people pay!
Another friend of mine can sew,
She taught me everything I know,
And all these talents, I may say,
I can do just not as they,
I make good effort but confess,
I cannot do with their finesse,
But there's a talent I can't manage,
It'd leave my laptop with some damage,
Computer jargon, web design?
Those talents honey aren't mine,
Who redesigned my humble blog?
Twas Angela, the glory hog,
She sings, she writes, she bakes, she cooks,
Reviews movies, critiques books,
And if that wasn't near enough,
She does a lot of other stuff,
Like raise two girls with such great care,
and is a wife extraordinaire,
So thank you Ange, you know you rule,
For making me feel extra cool!

HIDDEN TALENTS

I never realized how talented the members of my church congregation were until last year when the  Activities Committee held a talent night.  There were a few of the expected performances of piano playing, singing etc from those that we knew to possess these talents.  It was the unexpected that made the evening so entertaining.
I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  We follow a health code that includes not drinking alcohol and not smoking among other things.  With that in mind, you can imagine the horrified looks on the faces of the audience when a young woman brought her boyfriend to the festivities, guitar in hand, to perform "Whiskey Lullaby" (a song about a couple committing suicide by drinking themselves to death). She had not informed the organizer that she was even performing and was not on the program but he fit her in so as not to offend her.   I might add that this was a family event and there were a number of young children in the audience. There was some polite applause at the end of her song and then she announced they had another song to perform.  I heard my son mutter "I didn't hear anyone asking for an encore". I had to leave the room I was laughing so hard.
The other highlight of the evening for me came when the emcee announced that "little Sarah(6) is going to show us her paintings".  I was sitting next to a little six year old girl and she turned to me, eyes wide, took a sharp intake of breath and exclaimed "oh!!!!!".  I thought at first she was surprised because she didn't realize that a talent could be showing your artwork.  Little Sarah held her paintings up for all to see and was thrilled with the applause that ensued.  The little girl sitting next to me let out a huge sigh of relief and revealed to me " I thought he said Sarah was going to show us her panties."  Again, I had to leave the room.

Next month, we will be holding a Talent Night again...  I can hardly wait.
